Ive just been looking on ebay and there are about three main sellers on ebay all selling for a VERY similar price! The best deals are to be gained on ebay - i cannot find any other online shop or retailers selling either Xacti camera for anywhere near the £250ish price! Yes - I did begin this website as there was NO information for users out there on the camera and I found it incredibly difficult getting Sanyo to answer my questions - so I thought the best people to answer the questions are the users! And so here we all are, helping each other out to get the most out of out Xacti cameras! Lee www.xacti.co.uk

I contacted Sanyo and they recommended using SD cards that have a speed of at least 10mb/s You can sue the slower cards for taking photos as that isnt as memory intensive but if you are taking a lot of longer shots of video they do recommend that faster cards. Lee www.xacti.co.ukPS i have used the slower cards for longer pieces of video and they have all recorded ok - so im not entirely sure whether its a marketing ploy to get us to buy the dearer cards? Has anyone done any scientific tests on transfer speeds? (not between camera and pc but the ability of the Xacti camera to keep up with the dataflow to the card?)

Ill check for you now - i'll have to convert some to divx and xvid first to see if compatible! Report back soon! Lee www.xacti.co.ukI can confirm that converting MP4 files to DIVX and XVID using this software (http://mp4cam2avi.sourceforge.net/) does infact work a treat in Magix and hopefully all standard video editors that previously couldnt cope with the .MP4 extension! Has anyone else tried any other video editing applications? Lee www.xacti.co.uk

I only use my Archos 20gb storage device for storage and NOT playing the clips! The Archos device records and plays only mp4 video coded as AVI files and I have never felt the need to reencode them for this device! BUT I have encoded some videos to play on my Orange/Microsoft phone (C500) where I have converted them to WMV and they have played in sync! I think its just a trial and error thing, getting the bit rate at an efficient rate where the device playing it can cope with the data rate and also selecting the correct type of audio. If I remember correctly, there was a setting in Virtual Dub which would convert video files to the Archos required format - but even using those settings was a bit hit and miss! Best of luck and tell me if you have any success! Lee www.xacti.co.uk

Thats a great idea! I currently use a 20gb Archos portable hardrive - but the idea of buying a device that allows you to plug ANY hardrive into it and use it as a portable device is amazing! Lee www.xacti.co.uk

I don't know! I can't even think of a way of getting it to work (easily) either! Lee www.xacti.co.uk

hanks for your quick answer. Do you have the exact reference of this Nero soft (name and version)? I tried tu use Magix VideoDeLuxe, which I read could do the job, but it did not work... Glad I had not to buy it! And far too complicated for my basic needs. I am not Coppola ;D! With Nero, do you work with the original files or are thy converted before? And is it possible to export edited files for the web in usual web video formats? I actually purchased Magix Video as I enquired whether it could cope with MP4 and they claimed it could but have now found out that it actually CANT cope with the format! All they recommend is using some Quicktime software but I cant actually find any. I can find mp4 players but nothing to do with editing on the APPLE website. Any pointers in the right direction? Also - the whole point of trying to find a MP4 editing package is so that we DONT have to convert the video files - it defeats the whole point of the object! Nero does infact edit the MP4 files (unconverted!) Lee www.xacti.co.uk

Glad you are impressed with the camera m8! We are all stuck in the same boat concerning the editing side of things! No-one has found a dedicated MP4 video editing package that can cope with the video files created by the Xacti camera (or any mp4 camera!) The only two applications that I am aware are capable of editing the clips are Adobe After Effects (very complicated) and also Nero (the version will all the extras on) Ive tried Nero and its about the best editor at the moment - it will do what you have suggested with some cool motion effects and graphics! Just to update everyone it appears that I was getting missing moov files because my Sandisk SD card was proved to be faulty! It has taken me forever to get off my arse and report it to Sandisk. But when I did I rang a UK number which was passed onto a representative in USA (still UK call cost) and he asked me a few simple questions and he then gave me a few UK addresses to contact to claim another replacement card.(free) Within a few days a brand spanking new Sandisk SD card came and I am now error free! According to their report the sd card was littered with bad sectors which would have been more apparent in memory intensive files like MP4 movies. That is why 99% of photos seemed to be ok but the movies all contained missing moov files and other corruption! Lee www.xacti.co.uk

My last batch of videos I have captured will not play on my pc, even though other MP4 videos still do! The error I keep getting is that there is a 'missing moov atom' - what is this? and can it be replaced/repaired? I look forward to your replies! Lee www.xacti.co.uk

My sd card gave way over xmas and ive lost all my videos! Ive attempted to rescue them but the files are still corrupt and wont play! I did have a single error occur a week prior to Christmas and so fully reformatted the card hopefully to eradicate and further errors. Does anyone know if I can ever recover the MP4 files that ive lost (but got onto my pc at least just incase I can do something with them?) Lee www.xacti.co.uk
