I just received my xacti C4 from HK. The toy is fantastic. My fist trial pictures are great (macros and inside portrait), and the first clips I shot are very good too when played on TV, as good as the videos shot with my husband's big camescope ;D. It seems the Xacti is really what I was looking for! It was very windy and the wind noïse filter worked perfectly. My only concern is how to trim, paste and join clips together. I know I can do it with the xacti but it would be far more convenient on a computer... and unfortunately I am not a mac user, so can't use i-movie... Does anyone know if there is a simple way to convert xacti mpeg4 files so they can be read by Wmovie maker (with no quality loss), or a simple XP compatible soft to do this very basic job with xacti MP4s: select parts of clips, join them together, add 1 or 2 audio tracks and save in various formats. I say simple because I am not a pro and I do not want to spent hours of my time to learn a very complicated soft. TIA

Glad you are impressed with the camera m8! We are all stuck in the same boat concerning the editing side of things! No-one has found a dedicated MP4 video editing package that can cope with the video files created by the Xacti camera (or any mp4 camera!) The only two applications that I am aware are capable of editing the clips are Adobe After Effects (very complicated) and also Nero (the version will all the extras on) Ive tried Nero and its about the best editor at the moment - it will do what you have suggested with some cool motion effects and graphics! hanks for your quick answer. Do you have the exact reference of this Nero soft (name and version)? I tried tu use Magix VideoDeLuxe, which I read could do the job, but it did not work... Glad I had not to buy it! And far too complicated for my basic needs. I am not Coppola ;D! With Nero, do you work with the original files or are thy converted before? And is it possible to export edited files for the web in usual web video formats?

I actually purchased Magix Video as I enquired whether it could cope with MP4 and they claimed it could but have now found out that it actually CANT cope with the format! All they recommend is using some Quicktime software but I cant actually find any. I can find mp4 players but nothing to do with editing on the APPLE website. Any pointers in the right direction? Also - the whole point of trying to find a MP4 editing package is so that we DONT have to convert the video files - it defeats the whole point of the object! Nero does infact edit the MP4 files (unconverted!) Lee www.xacti.co.uk

Some points I found out: 1) By upgrading your quicktime player to quicktime pro, you can do basic editing with xacti files, but theyr are converted in mov files with I think a loss in quality. Usefull to edit and convert to usual web formats for web streaming. 2) To play on computer, VLC player and Real alternative (Media player), second one only if you have the right codec, -which I had yesterday and which disappeared during my sleep ! can open as any files in a folder as you choose, and play them without stopping, as it it was a joined movie. QT cannot do it, you have to open each file. 3) For saving on a CD or DVD: Nero last version can cope with xacti format.

Do you (or anyone else) know if it is possible to edit MPEG-4 files natively with QuickTime Pro? (i.e., without hawing to re-encode them, which would be a loss of quality)
