Hello,
It's my first post on your forum.
Thanks for your informations about softwares, especially for 'MPEG4 Direct Maker' wich is really usefull for batch encoding.
I can add some stuff to your informations:
[shadow=green,left,300]Play the MP4 Files :[/shadow]
Don't use the crappy quicktime, there is free and best alternative.
If you install
Ulead Photo Explorer or
Ulead Video from the Xacti Cd-Rom, you will be able to playback mp4 video from your favourite divx player (I tested with zoomplayer and Media Player classic). For those who (like me) bought their xacti in japan,
Ulead Photo Explorer can be installed in English.
Or you can playback the mp4 file with your favourite player by installing 3ivx codec (but the AAC codec is 30days limited, so 30 days later you will not be able to play sound anymore).
Or you can install
Quicktime Alternative, then you you can play files with you favorite player, or use
Media Player Classic wich is inside the codec pack. (FREE)
Some codec installation can be problems, they can enter in conflict with the Ulead MP4 codecs. If you have installed
Ulead Photo Editor at first then installed a new codec, and you can't playback MP4 anymore : DON'T REINSTALL THE ULEAD SOFWARE! , just go to your Xacti CD then go to
CD:/Video Studio/Setup/OEM/Regfile then launch
file_mp4.reg and file_3gp.reg.
I think there is a way to install the Ulead mp4 codecs without installing any Ulead software with the .dll and the reg files from the cd, but I couldn't figure out yet.
Any help would be great.
[shadow=green,left,300]Converting MP4->AVI :[/shadow]
Don't select :
Video Compressor - 'uncompressed'
Select :
Video Compressor - HuffYUV 2.x
HuffYUV is a Lossless and realtime encoding codec, if you don't have this codec, just go there :
www.free-codecs.com/download/HuffYUV.htm. (FREE)
Files will be 1/4 size than uncompressed, and it's lossless!!!
(before encoding with HUFFYUV go to his 'configuration dialog' and check
Always suggest RGB format to output it resolved all crash problem I encountered with Adobe Premiere)
If you really lack of places and you want to convert your MP4 files before encoding, have a look of all the lossless (some with poxerfull compression but not realtime) here :
www.100fps.com/file_sizes_of_lossless_compression.htmThere is some lossless audio codecs too, but mp3 encoding is fast enought with a normal computer.
[shadow=green,left,300]Video Editing :[/shadow]
I use Adobe Premiere, I think it's one of the best for Video Editing.
So if you use Adobe Premiere, don't use PCM sound to convert you mp4(don't work), and don't forget to check the box
Always suggest RGB format to output in the 'Huffyuv configuration dialog'.
I encountered this problem with the version 6.1, maybe now this problems have been resolved.
And ...
Excuse my froggy english
