Hi, My wife gave me a Sanyo VPC-C4 for Christmas. She had ordered on the internet from a Hong Kong & US based outfit.
The camera kit had was very complete except including an SD card. The case was not the new C4 style case, but was the old C1 style case [it fits, but is snug]. The strap sent was the older C1 style long neck strap, so I cut it down to a wrist length strap.
The instruction book included a english version.
I have only taken a handfull of pictures and a few movies, so there is no camera review just yet.
So far I think this is going to be a great camera, video recorder.
Regards, John

I am learning the operation and procedures for my new Sanyo VPC-C4. Operation has been fast to learn, with Sanyo’s intuitive menu system.
I feel Picture quality is very good. My quick comparisons of Christmas pictures from it and my Minolta Xi (3.2mp), it is equal or slightly superior in focus accuracy, focus speed, shot to shot recovery times.
I was pleasantly surprised with the results from the "small under the lens" flash. Red eye was found in 75 percent of portrait pictures (which I removed in photoshop). The low flash tends to create a shadow behind a persons head if they are near a white wall.
The 5.8x zoom lens is outstanding in a pocket size camera.
I am still getting used to the cameras ergonomics, I not yet totally comfortable on quick shooting.
I have taken a few movies, very impressive; they looked very good on a 27 inch television screen when played out of the cameras docking station.
Battery life seems okay, I will be buying a spare battery in the future.
As I use the camera, I will try and post my Sanyo VPC-C4 opinions.
Regards, John

John,
It sounds like you are well satisfied.
I will most likely purchase a Sanyo C4 in Hong Kong.
I wondered if you could post some of your C4's pictures?
I am only interested in the 4 mp picture size.
Thanks, Bob

Hello,
I have some informal testing results, I was checking out the lens characteristics at wide angle and at telephoto; at the 5.8mm focal length there was a moderate amount of Barrel distortion, at 33.8mm there was a slight amount of pincushion. The lens seems to stay sharp right out to the corners of each picture.
LookingToo ask: How do like the quality of your pictures when they are enlarged?
I thought it made a very nice enlargement, I have made one 11" x 17" picture .
LookingToo ask: have you looked at detail areas like eyelashes etc... through a loup?
Yes in well lighted pictures detail is outstanding. LookingToo ask: Have you tried capturing action shots yet?
No not yet.
Regards, John

I too am very impressed re C4, and aquired via similar route, e-bay. I have noticed that when taking night shots/flash in the house the camera creates small circles of over exposed areas, very weird. I think I've probably had the camera set at 8mpixel, so am wondering if it is the s/w interpolation, will try it on 4 and check results.
General photos are not upto a sony v1, what do you expect, but it is a very fun, especially video, camera.

Hello,
I believe that may be dust particles that are in the air, reflecting back the flash?
And I guess you could check the lens for dust.
I have not been taking any pictures at the 8mp level, all mine so far have been at 4mp.
Occasionally I have seen those small light circles in my Minolta digital camera's pictures and in pictures from my new Sanyo.
Regards, John

Hi LookingToo! I do not think you will have any trouble with the Sanyo VPC-C4. I have large hands and when holding the camera, I place my index finger over the top of the camera. When my wife uses the camera she keeps all her fingers under the lens and flash. I hope that helps. JJW
