The camera looks great, performs much better in low light--which was a major issue before.
I still haven't checked other major issues, but they have improved the durability of the bottom socket that nests in the dock. There was an intermittent connection in my old HD1 with the USB/DC adaptor thingy that comes with it, and eventually we had to use just the dock.
One major issue--NO ENGLISH MENUS--at least with this firmware version. I am assuming that when the camera trickles into the non-Japanese market, this will follow. I was quite shocked; my wife and I bought the camera, so confident in our HD1, and having read the reviews on the HD2, and duly unloaded the HD1 on Ebay---then I notice, OUCH! no English menus. I can read the Japanese menus, but not nearly as quickly or well.
Still, an excellent form factor--the 'pistol' style is by far the best for travel video and photography for us--being unobtrusive and sometimes stealthy enough to go unnoticed. I'm hoping for an improvement in audio. I noticed a very clippy, unstable low end on the HD1 audio--sounded almost like brickwalling in the lower frequencies. Still there is no way to attach a windscreen on the mics. The camera also should come with a protective film on the LCD, which we had to attach.
The lens is still very claustrophobic until you get the optional wide-angle lens on it, which we purchased with the camera.
Does it pause irritatingly while shooting video if you shoot a still? That is something I will post later today. I haven't checked it.
Great camera, clocked in at 89,000 yen out the door.
