Hi all Great info from everyone here. Although I'm still stuck with the same dilemma. HD1 or C6 The are two reasons why I am leaning towards the C6: 1) the price - for some reason the HD1 is not sold in Israel - I found only one store and it's asking 6500 ILS (about $1480) which is insane, so I'll have to order from overseas - which is complicated. While the C6 I could get for 2100 ILS (about $480) - which is reasonable. 2) the reviews generally agree that there are some performance issues: low-lighting performance; unstable stills; unstable video - which is more apparent in HD mode; background noise in quiet recordings. On the other hand, the general yard-stick was a sony that costed 50% more. And the other thing is that are these perfomance issues measured by HD standard? I mean, I don't need HD, I just want a good camera - so how does it compare to other cameras in its price range? On the other hand, the reviews on the C6 were mixed saying that some of the performance issues of the C5 were resolved. 3) Does the 6 megapixel indicate a better CCD? This would imply that the C6 gives better pictures, albeit the video is smaller. (It's not a real issue as 5 megapixel is enough. Yes, I can count. ) So, basically, how much am I missing by taking the C6? Oh, and of course, the HD1 does not come in red. Avinoam

with so many complaints with the HD1 lcd screen, i'll put my money on the C6. the HD1 is the next generation xactis and its still has to prove its quality...
try the CA6 (waterproof version)..

Why not considered a C5 if you don't need a HD camcorder, they are real cheap on ebay about $300

Unless you really want a HD option I would recommend going for the C5 or C6.
The High Definition on the HD1 is HD in dimensions but doesnt deliver the clarity that is expected from a HD picture.
It is still, probably, the best HD camera around but as this is the first edition I would most certainly wait a while before upgrading to the HD version and would recommend getting a C5 or C6 first to see whether you feel you can afford the extra expense for a HD1 and whether you would actually utilise the HD features?

I've owned a C4 and now a C6. I wouldn't regard any of the Xacti cameras as good enough for any serious video use. If you want to make nice videos, get a hard disk camcorder or a DV camcorder - the pictures and sound will be much better and much easier to edit into something presentable. If, like me, all you want is some video notes and half decent still snapshots from something that fits into your shirt pocket & will go with you *everywhere* (9/10ths of "interesting" things happen when you haven't got your SLR camera or the DV camcorder handy). So think "video dictation machine" and you'll be on the right lines.
