Hi all
I have a C5 and have noticed that if you install Ulead photo explorer 8 basic (program that comes with the camera) you can view MP4 movies. However, if you then install Nero 6 (with MP4 plugin, Nero Digital), the MP4 movies do not play with Ulead photo explorer 8 basic (the program crashes), but does play in nerovision express 3. If you delete Ulead photo explorer 8 basic, then re-install it, MP4 movies play again. However, nerovision express 3 does not load and play MP4 files. Any way to get both programs working at the same time?

Its wont solve your problem but for your info I use the same products as you (Ulead 8 SE as supplied with my C5 & Nero 6 fully registered & updated) and they both play the MP4s without problem. What DVD Decoder do you use? I had some problems with Windows Media Centre, Media Player 9 and Nero 6 playing DVDs untill I found and installed the Nvidia DVD Decoder V1.00.58. and now all is ok. The DVD decoder is often overlooked when upgrading and experiencing problems and is a fairly crucial bit of software.

I am using the Nero DVD decoder, but it may not be the latest. I have updated Nero 6 to the latest update without success. I will try the latest Nero media player and then the Nvidia DVD Decoder V1.00.58.
Thanks Brad

There is a usefull Microsoft utility called DECCHECK which checks your DVD decoders for compatability within windows XP and allows you to change your default decoder if you have more than one installed, I have 4 on my system and only one is given a green tick by the utility the NVIDIA the others, ULEAD and two NEROs show "issues". (I can e-mail it too you if you cant find it on a google)

I've just installed that DECCHECK from the microsoft website and all my codecs have red crosses next to them - is that good? Should there be at least one green tick? Lee www.xacti.co.uk

I will try DECCHECK to see what happens. When Ulead photo explorer 8 basic stpos playing mp4 movies, I tried running the reg file from the Xacti CD then go to CD:/Video Studio/Setup/OEM/Regfile then launch file_mp4.reg. This then enables photo explorer to play movies, but then nerovision does not let you load mp4 movies to view/modify. So it does seem like it is a registry problem or a codec incopmatibility problem.

He guys, you're asking me more than I know now, I used the DECCHECK after tracking my problem in a Windows Media Centre forum. Lee, if you system is ok then don't worry about the red Xs! I used it to switch between decoders as part of an exhaustive process of elimination to get DVDs playing on my PC. And for once it worked!
