I am thinking of getting a C5 on ebay from Hong Kong, but I am unsure what the import duty/vat might be. Has anyone else bought a C4 or C5 this way and had to pay any duty?

Thanks Julie, after much searching and comparing I'm even more confused than ever now. Is the c5 actually better than the c4? It would still be cheaper through ebay even paying duty. I checked out the c4 in my local Currys and was really impressed (shame they want £400 for it and that was with £100 off!!) Must make a decision soon or my brain will fry! Found this whilst trawling the web if anybodys not seen it.http://www.sanyo-dsc.com/english/products/vpc_c5/image_sample/index.html

thanks again Julie - do you find the editing of movies OK as it sounds like normal editing programs dont accept mp4 files - I'm a total beginner in this area and dont want to find myself stuck with lots of video that I cant edit. I must try to read again the suggested software bit on this forum again - but try to understand it this time.

I have just bought a C5 of ebay, the seller was S K digital world, I picked this particualr one as it included a spare battery and a one Gig SD card. It was full UK spec with original english instructions and software. Delivery was £33 plus £10 insurance. The camera was £279. I did not have to pay additional customes fees :-) I was told by fedex that this would be around £30 if it was applied. Delivery took about 10 days and was trackable via fedex website. Overall a pain free purchase. As for the camera, oh boy it is a fantastic little machine, feels like quality in your hands, operation is a sinch and image quailty is more than I need as a general user and well exceeds what it is replacing - 2Mp Olympus camera and a Canon video 8 camcorder. I am using a the full version of Nero which handles the cameras MP4 files straignt from the camera.
Hope this advice helps. Mike

I've just bought a C4 from pixmania for £300. I priced up the unit from digital rev in HK and it came to about £275 inc carriage, duty, VAT.
I pondered over the saving but with pixmania i get two years guarantee, digitalRev offer 1 yr UK guarantee and others offer 1 year hong kong guarantee. Which would you rather have? Take this into account
Anyway, one very happy owner

Got my C5 last week. Took 8 days to arrive from HK. Just over £300 inc. delivery & insurance. No import duty to pay wich was a bonus. I use the mp42avi to convert and Magix movie edit pro 2005 to edit - all works very well. I'm glad I found this site as there is so much good info and advice on it. One problem I have found is that the playback can sometimes look jerky when edited is this to do with a poor quality SD card??? Otherwise really impressed with this little bit of kit

re jerky video I'd understand if the video was jerky as the card must support the 3mbps data rate. But if you are only seeing this with edited video that can't be the reason
Did the HK seller supply a high speed card or a normal one out of interest

Re the Jerkey play back, try encoding your final movies in NTSC rather than PAL, as mentioned in other threads on this site encoding in NTSC retains all the Xactis 30 frames per second, PAL has to drop some to make 25FPS hence the jerks, most noticable on panning shots.
MY TV and DVD payer both automaticaly detect NTSC and switch to that mode. Mike

Uled Moviefactory does not read .mp4 files so i have to convert them to avi. Please let me know what software you use so you don´t have to convert them. Wences.
