The way that I understand the camera is that when using usb1 (or usb2) when you plug the device into the slot the computer will automatically see the device as a removable hard-drive thus appearing within the 'My Computer' screen as a usable drive from where you can drag, drop, copy, cut any files recorded onto your camera and memory card. This assumes that you are using Windows XP. I personally do not use the software supplied with the camera as it is not very good and there are better (free) software available out there! I will post a thread detailing which software I use and where to get it from soon. Lee www.xacti.co.uk

You simply plug the usb cable into a usb port either while attached to the cradle or the small attachment that plus into the bottom camera connector. The small connector does everything the cradle does but not the remote. The computer, if XP is installed will then recognize the camera as a removeable drive or if you have installed the included software will automatically detect and offer to download files. You can do it either way. I prefer to close Ulead and download to a new folder from My computer and the appropriate removable drive. The download process takes a few minutes. You select the files to download copy and paste to the desired folder. Mpeg4 (M4) files are small compared to any other format but require a fast computer to play back and Quicktime. Converting them to Mpeg2 makes them play more easily and the quality with the Ulead software is so good the might even look and play better but are much larger also the mp4 files can be stored on CDs if you lack a DVD burner. The files will download faster than if you had to play a miniDV file through firewire to the computer. Once you have saved them to CD or dvd you can delete them from your hard drive, and SD card. I have had a C1 for over a year. It is durable, convenient, and the quality is good. The video is as good as 2 different JVC miniDVs I have had. and the picture quality is good but I can only compare to the JVCs stll capture and a 1.3 megapixal Olympus. All took fair pictures and their low light performance without extra light was the same. I also have a C5. It has improvements but seems worse in low light. Have fun.

Don't connect camera to your PC via USB - it's too slow. Use USB 2.0 card-reader - you'll transfer 1Gb of video in several minutes. First copy mp4 clips to your PC, then import them to Video Studio.

Either put the camera into the cradle it came with and then plug the cradle into a usb port. Push the Camera/Charge button on the cradle and a box should popup on your pc screen asking what you want to do - just copy all the items into a folder onto your pc. OR Remove your SD memory card from the camera and put them into a card-reader and it should automatically appear as an external drive on the list of drives in the My Computer screen. Once again drag/cut/copy all the files to your main hardrive. This assumes that you have a SD card reader and are using Windows XP! Lee www.xacti.co.uk
